Ever-fascinated by the opportunity to create new styles and techniques, LOOPS is the result of a years-long dedicated exploration combining hot and cold sculpting techniques, including modular assembly, to invent new ways of designing and creating in glass. Developed by the artist during his time as Glass Master at Holmegaard Værk, the Nordic design museum in Denmark, Niedermann’s LOOPS and Modular Shapes are distinct bodies of work built using the same visual vocabulary to create a seamless look into the future of what is possible in glass and the history of where it came from. Blown, carved, assembled, and etched, Jonas Noël Niedermann’s Modular Shapes series brilliantly builds on his LOOPS and illustrates the artist’s forward-thinking design sense and draws on his mastery of his craft honed over the course of almost 20 years of glassmaking. Niedermann’s command of the material is evident through his sleek lines and smooth shapes, creating nuanced organic forms of perfection. LOOPS is the artist’s first solo exhibition in the United States. Niedermann is represented by Chesterfield Gallery in New York and has shown widely throughout Europe, including Italy, Germany, Denmark, Austria, Bulgaria, and his native Switzerland.
